63 – Bringing Extended Reality to Consumer Goods II

Mixed Reality – As the name goes it’s the mix of AR, VR. Just like VR, it is also headset based, It can transform the way we view and interact. You can stay in your office or at your home and attend a meeting which is happening in the USA or at the remotest location.

Extended reality can revolutionize our life – Retail business is looking forward to adopting these technologies which can provide consumers better shopping experience, suppose you want to buy a product and without going to the supermarket, you can just wear your VR set you can search, select and buy it.

Consumers can take the virtual tour of the stores from the comfort of their homes. It is most helpful for the e-commerce sector Amazon and Flipkart can leverage these technologies. Giants like IKEA are already using it to lure customers where consumers will get a better idea of how furniture will look like in their apartment, which size will fit in according to the area of their room.

According to the cosmetics Products Market 2019 Global Industry research report, The global cosmetic products market was valued at USD 532.43 billion in 2017 and is expected to reach a market value of USD 805.61 billion by 2023. Extended reality can be a boon to the cosmetic product industry since it can give consumers the option where they can try before buying most of the women-centric products, they want to try first before buying it. It can save the time of the consumer but also the time of the retailers or salesperson.

62 – Bringing Extended Reality to Consumer Goods I

Augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality all come under the same umbrella, Extended Reality’. What is ‘Extended Reality’ you might be wondering?
Extended reality is all about the immersive experience of the physical and virtual world. Big tech companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are already investing a huge amount of money in these technologies to make the life of the consumers easier.

Let’s talk about Augmented reality first AR is already used in various gaming platforms which can enhance the gaming experience through a screen or glasses most well-known example of it’s Pokemon go, Geocaching, Zombie run or we can find it on Instagram and snap chat various filters. Pokemon go, become a popular and overnight success. USP of the game was location-based AR which blends with the real-world, giving gamers a unique experience.

Virtual Reality – You need a VR set, once you wear a VR set it ill give you a 360-degree view of the artificial world while playing games user can feel like they are inside the game experiencing the whole scenario in reality just with the help of VR headset.

61 – The Super Market Story

A few years back when people have to buy anything they used to rush to the nearest “Kirana” shops until supermarkets entered the Indian market. Supermarkets are the best destination to buy every household products in bulk with huge discounts. The first supermarket opened in Delhi, I 1966, known as ‘Superbazar’ and over the years India’s conglomerates introduced their supermarket chains and stores as it is the growing sector. Big bazaar of Future group, Spencer of Goenka group, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance retails, and More store of Aditya Birla group is some of the leading names.

Who is more successful than others? It’s debatable. One which is outperforming by their business strategy is D-mart, a chain of hypermarketS which is founded by Radhakishan Damani in 2002. Experts suggest the business model adopted by D-mart is what makes them out of the league.

Rent Vs Buy
Rival supermarkets look for expanding their business and opening more retail outlets in different cities renting spaces and buildings which turns out more costly on prime locations. D-mart doesn’t believe in following this strategy their main focus on store ownership model instead of renting out a place they purchase the land to set up the store to save up rental charges.

High End vs Low-End Product

Most of the supermarket’s chains aim to sell high-end categories products like electronics, jewellery or watches, D-mart stick to their rules and sale low-end or daily use items like Food and groceries products, company also avoid introducing own branded products which other supermarket stores do

60 – What can we learn from Cartoon Characters

What Can We Learn From Cartoons?

Childhood is one of the most significant phases of our life. No tension, no worries, no assignments, life is all about fun and games. Back in my childhood, we didn’t have internet access and TV serves as the sole source of entertainment.

I still remember, all of my favorite cartoon shows – Courage the cowardly dog, Swat Kats, Shinchan, Johny Bravo, Tom and Jerry, Popeye, etc. Back then these were just cartoon characters but now I realize they were more than that, we can learn a lot from our favorite cartoon characters.

1. Popeye –Popeye taught us “Keep Fighting”, no matter what. He used to eat spinach, to rejuvenate himself. Eat green veggies instead of consuming junk food.

2. Scooby-Doo – A gang of five, always willing to support each other. Scooby taught us to keep our friends close. Genuine friends will always have your back and willing to stand with you in troublesome situations.

3. Richie Rich – the richest cartoon character, after Uncle Scrooge which remains a Disney character. Richie rich taught us to stay humble and grounded, speak politely to all the house helps and never misuse your powers.

4. Johnny Bravo –
What we can grasp from the character of Johnny Bravo is “Consistency is the key to success” Keep pushing your limits and stay presentable. Rejections are part of life.

5. Road Runner –
Beep! Beep! The funny and notorious cartoon character, Road Runner taught us is to keep running, stay focused. Coyotes are everywhere with the bootstrap.

6. Captain Planet – In 90’s Captain Planet taught us the value of our essential resources and Mother Earth. We never expected a few years down the line we will face severe climatic crises and climate change.

At present, we don’t find any entertaining and informative cartoon shows.

The end of the year is near, the last week of the month will start from the day of Christmas. Everyone is in the mood of celebration and holidays, as India is a diverse country we all are unaware of various festival traditions which are celebrated differently on separate occasions, recently while talking to one of my friends I get to know about a Christmas special tradition which I wasn’t aware of which is known as Secret Santa.

Secret Santa is a Christmas tradition in which members of the group, college or school friends or colleagues were randomly assigned to gift something to the other person without revealing the identity of themselves.

The first step is to jot down all the names of the group members on a small piece of paper, then each person has to pick a piece without revealing whose name is on the piece of paper. Then all of the members of groups have to provide their wish list if they have any so the person who is there secret Santa, that person can surprise them by gifting anything from the wishlist.

Each participant will bring the gift for the assigned person to the Christmas evening party or get together and then the assigned person has to guess who gave them the gift. If there are lots of people are in the group and you are unable to decide there are various secret Santa generator websites that can ease up the task.

55 – The Stanford Prison Experiment I

The Stanford Prison Experiment is a social psychology experiment that was conducted by the renowned psychology professor Phillipp Zimbardo. The experiment was conducted at Stanford University in 1971. The main idea behind the experiment was to investigate and understand the prisoners and guard relationship, brutality and contrasting personalities of prisoners and guards.

Participants were recruited for a two-week simulation program, after various tests and analysis, the professor selected a total of 24 applicants for the experiment who were mentally, physically healthy and stable. Participants were allowed to choose directly what they want to be for the experiment, they can be a prisoner or a guard.

The experiment was initiated by how police arrest a criminal, prisoners were arrested from their home to make it as realistic as possible, the identical procedure was being followed when any other criminal gets busted. They photographed the prisoners, gave them convicts uniforms, locked them up in the prison. They assign a number instead of calling them by their names. The professor also advised guards to wear sunglasses, to avoid any eye contact with the prisoners.

Guards were assigned to work in shifts, they have the authority to do anything to establish and maintain law and order in the prison, whereas they were unallowed to physically harm any prisoner. Professor Zimbardo acted as a prison warden to watch and observe the behavior of prisoners and guards.

54 – Rise and Fall of WeWork

WeWork is a real estate company, which provides shared workspaces for different companies and entrepreneurs, founded in 2010 and headquartered in New York City.

WeWork is in the news lately for a lot of nefarious reasons, Adam Neuman who was emerging and known as one of the successful CEOs had to resign. He sold the vision to the people by explaining how to work and play go hand in hand, why it is important to design and rent a workplace where workers can work and enjoy together and with the help of his revolutionary ideas he convinced SoftBank to invest in his company.

Softbank is heavily backed by Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, and most of their bets aren’t performing well but they never hesitate to invest money on start-ups. WeWork started to grow rapidly and became the largest office space provider in London and New York. In April 2019 WeWork confidently planned to go public and failed miserably.

Experts suggest it is because of the bad business model, which the Ex CEO – Adam Neuman followed and his shares at the time were 20 times higher than others and most of the investors were not comfortable by this mode, the company wasn’t making any profits. It shook investors, and they started to pull back the investments. Mr. Masayoshi CEO of Softbank admitted that it was a mistake to invest in We work.
